The Great Debate!? What is the best food for my dog or cat?
As we “Hoomans” are increasingly spending more time and money to ensure we are eating the best foods possible – Is it organic? Is it Non-GMO? Is that chicken free-range? It should come as no surprise to see that trend manifest in what we choose to buy and feed our fur babies.
So, really, what is the best food for me to feed my pets? Well, that depends… There are so many variables specific to each pet that must be considered:
1) What is my pet’s breed?
2) Does my pet have allergies or health concerns that the require a specific diet?
2) Does my pet need wet food, dry food, cooked human-grade food, or raw food?
3) What stage of life is my pet in? How sedentary or active is my pet’s lifestyle?
5) What is my monthly budget for my pet’s food/nutrition needs?
Not to mention there are so many brands and types of pet foods available: wet, dry (kibble), raw, and cooked human-grade options. Each option has their own set of regulated standards for acceptable ingredients, additives, and production methods.
Totally PAWsome always recommend consulting with your vet to ensure you make the best choice for your pet’s specific dietary needs and purchase the best food you can afford within your budget.
There are two great resources that can help you make the most informed decision possible when choosing which brand of food is best four your pet! We recommend doing your homework and visiting Dog Food Advisor (https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com) or Cat Food Advisor (https://www.catfoodadvisor.com). These sites provide independent, unbiased reviews without influence from pet food companies. We like the ratings and easy-to-read percentage breakdowns of crude protein, fat, and carbohydrates they detail in each specific offering from hundreds of brands. They even highlight key ingredients in BRIGHT RED that are considered controversial and potentially adverse to your pet’s health.
We highly recommend using either of these websites today to see where your pet’s food ranks!
