The “Dog Days” of Summer are here! @tpptsoflo has your back (and your pup’s) to help your pups beat the heat with these four Summer Dog-Friendly Fruits!
Blueberries – Filled with antioxidants, low in calories, high in vitamin C, fiber, and phytochemicals. Vitamin C and fiber are vital components of proper canine nutrition. Phytochemicals have shown the ability to fight cancer in humans. Antioxidants fight free radicals, which cause cellular and molecular damage in dogs. Additionally, antioxidants studies have shown to reduce the effects of brain aging!
Watermelon – Remember to remove the seeds and the rind before sharing with your pup! This health-food powerhouse is low calories and full of nutrients including vitamins A, B6, C, and potassium. No fat, no cholesterol, and only about 50 calories per cup and with 92% water content. Cut in chunks and feed cold from the fridge or as a sweet frozen treat. This will help hydrate your pups and beat the heat after a summer walk. Trust me, this treat is Luca, Angie, and Skyline approved!
Strawberries – In moderation, these are a great sweet treat for your pups! Wash thoroughly and cut into pieces to prevent choking. This low-calorie treat is packed with antioxidants, fiber and vitamin C. Studies have shown regularly adding these to your pup’s diet can help boost their immune system. Did I also mention strawberries have been proven to help whiten your pup’s teeth!
Cantaloupe – Remember to remove the seeds and rind before sharing with your pup! Also, as this particular fruit is high in sugar, it should not be given to diabetic pups. In moderation, this fruit is packed with antioxidants, vitamins B6, A, C, niacin, folate, and potassium. With high water content, low calories, and high fiber content it a great treat for hydration, preventing constipation, and aiding digestion. Studies on antioxidants have shown to reduce cell aging, increase cell function, and fight the risk of some diseases in dogs!
